Information About Dyslexia:
The International Dyslexia Association, Inc. (IDA) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charity, organized and operated to provide advocacy, resources and services to teaching professionals, advocates and individuals and families impacted by dyslexia and other related learning differences.
The INW Dyslexia Alliance, a local (Spokane and CDA) nonprofit founded in 2022, with a mission to support, empower, and advocate for individuals with dyslexia, their families, and professionals in the Inland Northwest.
Decoding Dyslexia Washington is a parent-led, grassroots organization made up of parents, teachers, administrators and professionals. We came together to raise dyslexia awareness, empower families to support their children with dyslexia, and to positively inform Washington policy makers on best practices to identify, remediate and support students with dyslexia.
Our mission is to increase awareness of dyslexia and its true nature, specifically to illuminate the creative and intellectual strengths of those with dyslexia, to disseminate the latest scientific research and practical resources, and to transform the treatment of all dyslexic children and adults.
The Washington state Dyslexia Advisory Council is tasked with identifying tools and resources that will help screen for dyslexia or indicators of dyslexia. Additionally, they're working to develop recommendations on best practices for implementing the screenings in school districts, staff training to target the areas of need for those experiencing dyslexia or indicators of dyslexia, information for parents and families that includes a list of resources, and best practices to help students in grades three and above who might be experiencing dyslexia.
Washington and Idaho branch of the International Dyslexia Association. The International Dyslexia Association supports efforts to provide individuals with dyslexia with appropriate instruction and to identify these individuals at an early age.

Dr. Gerdin is a Spokane area clinical psychologist specializing in the assessment of developmental & psychiatric disorders. He uses neuropsychological assessments, academic tests, intelligence tests, and a variety of personality assessments to form a wholistic picture of his patients. He often works with patients whose developmental or psychiatric diagnoses have been missed or masked for years.
Spokane Pediatric Therapy & Assessment Using a Strengths-Based Approach by Dr. Leslie Hayward. She is trained as a school psychologist at the doctoral level, with intensive training with rendering medical diagnoses in child mental health concerns and is able to collect data across the various environments in which children live, learn, and play.
Creative and customized speech and language intervention by Alicia Weeks, MS, CCC-SLP in Spokane. Also provides diagnostic assessments. Currently in network with Premera/Blue Cross insurance. Superbills and cash pay options available.
Dyslexia evaluations through the INW Dyslexia Alliance are conducted by licensed and clinically certified Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), serving clients aged 6-18. An accurate diagnosis of dyslexia offers clarity, helping guide students towards evidence-based reading instruction and accommodations for school success. Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area.
